Initiation of Vajrayoginī: Naropa’s Dakini
Vajrayoginī (Dorje Naeljorma in Tibetan) is a female deity of Highest Yoga Tantra whose practice is sourced from the Heruka Cakrasaṃvara root tantra. A mother tantra, cultivation of Vajrayoginī emphasizes the development of clear light. This practice is said to be especially suitable for the present day, with its essential aspects presented as eleven yogas that are relatively simple to learn and practice. The visualizations are beautifully simple and clear, but contain all the important aspects of the generation stage. Vajrayoginī’s mantra is said to contain the essence of the mantras of all the ḍākinīs (sky-going female deities). Through this deity practice, students can quickly progress along the path to enlightenment.
It is encouraged that people attend Khensur Rinpoche Jetsun Lobsang Delek’s teachings on the Three Principle Aspects of the Path on Saturday, April 1st prior to attending this empowerment.

Participating from Afar:
It is requested that students in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) make the effort to attend the initiation in person in Burlington if possible.
Students living in other places may participate in the initiation fully IF they have the intention to keep at least the minimum commitments of the practice.
If I don’t want to receive the commitments, can I take the initiation as a blessing?
Students who choose NOT to take the full initiation are highly encouraged to take the initiation as a blessing only. Although taking the initiation as a blessing does not require vows or commitments, it is still incredibly powerful and auspicious to receive the initiation as a blessing. Students who choose to receive this as a blessing may do so online or in person according to personal circumstances.
If I choose to take the full initiation, what are the commitments?
- With this empowerment, one will take Refuge, Bodhisattva, and Tantric Vows.
- There is a commitment that consists of keeping a daily practice of the deity, as well as the Six Session Guru Yoga.
- Students taking the full initiation should have a good intellectual understanding of the three principal aspects of the path.
These commitments for daily practice in its simplest form can be completed in 10 – 15 minutes after the student is familiar with the practice – but it is a daily lifelong commitment. If one chooses to do the practice more fully, one can spend an hour or more depending on how much time one has.

About Khensur Rinpoche
Lama Yeshe Ling is honoured to welcome Khensur Rinpoche to our community. The 74th abbot of Sera Jey Monastery, Khensur Rinpoche Jetsun Lobsang Delek, was born in 1939 in Kardze, Kham (Eastern Tibet). Known to his students and friends as Gen Umalajugpa, he is one of the few remaining great lamas partly trained in Tibet. You can learn more about Khensur Rinpoche here.
