Prayers for Geshe Sherab who has contracted COVID

We have recently had the sad news that Geshe Thubten Sherab, who has so kindly taught taught at Lama Yeshe Ling on a number of occasions, unfortunately, contracted COVID-19 two weeks ago. He had traveled to Nepal in March to help take care of his sick uncle and elderly father. Geshe-la said he did not share the news earlier because “I did not want to worry everyone.” Instead, he thought he would tell everyone once he was well.

“But, COVID had other plans” Geshe-la said, and now he has developed pneumonia. His doctor advised that Geshe-la may need to be admitted to the hospital to treat it. He is now improving after being put on oxygen. Lama Zopa Rinpoche is giving advice and Kopan Monastery is helping to look after him.

When asked what prayers and practices to do, Geshe-la said the students could recite either Tara praises or Tara mantra, as well as keeping harmony in our community.

As practicing together as a community can be more powerful than practicing alone, we are sharing Thubten Norbu Ling’s weekly online group recitation of the Tara praises and mantra, as well as Medicine Buddha puja, on Saturdays, starting May 8 from 5pm – 7pm MDT, led by Ven. Robina Courtin.

You can join in on Zoom.

If you plan to recite the Tara praises or mantra at home, please count your recitations.

You can send the number of weekly recitations to Thubten Norbu Ling on Saturdays via this form (preferred method). Or, by emailing Shankha Mitra, their spiritual program manager, at [email protected] with the subject heading: Tara Recitations. Please include your name, date, and the accumulated number of recitations in the email. We will offer the total number of recitations to Geshe-la every month.

You can visit Thubten Norbu Ling’s website for practice updates for Geshe Sherab’s health.

A number of other centres have arranged prayers for Geshe la.
