Ascending the Path of Vajrayāna: Wisdom Obliterating Obstacles, the Practice of Solitary Hero Vajrabhairava (with a drop of Vajrayoginī’s Completion Stage)

BIMONTHLY CLASSES STARTING IN SEPTEMBER

When: Saturday, September 20th, 2025, 10:00 – 11:30 am ET

Times of future monthly teachings will be announced.

Where: These sessions are presented live on Zoom, with the meeting details sent to qualified participants before the event (please see below for registration link).

A recording of each session will be accessible from an authorized view on lamayesheling.org with an individual logon account given to each participant. This will allow people from different time zones to watch at their convenience. We kindly request that you do not share this link or transcripts of the sessions with anyone else, ensuring that the teachings are only viewed by qualified viewers. Geshe Sonam has requested that recordings of each session be made available to registered participants for a limited time, approximately 3-4 weeks.

NOTE: Geshe la has said he feels the commentary is more effective when attended in real-time, with one reason being that his gradual reading of the text serves as the oral transmission, and this can only be fully received in real-time (according to his approach).

About the Teachings:

Solitary Hero Vajrabhairava (Yamāntaka) is a father tantra (pha rgyud) deity who is the wrathful manifestation of Mañjuśrī, the Buddha of wisdom. His practice is said to be powerful enough to transform negative emotions and overcome any outer obstacles to spiritual practice. As a father tantra, Vajrabhairava’s practice emphasizes the attainment of the illusory body (rgyud lus), the substantial cause of arising the rūpakāya (form body) of a Buddha. The practice includes powerful visualizations and recitations, such as taking the three bodies into the path, the protection wheel, and inner offering. Lama Zopa Rinpoche explains more about the Yamantaka practice and how it fits into Lama Tsongkhapa’s presentation of tantra here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jp1GCf2Ruck

Although these classes will feature Geshe la’s commentary on the Victory Over Evil Sādhanā of Vajrabhairava as the main topic, Geshe will conclude each class with a short presentation of the Vajrayoginī completion stage, to help students develop imprints for both generation and completion stages, and father and mother tantra. This holistic approach is the essence of Lama Tsongkhapa’s presentation of the Vajrayāna path.

Please Note: Participation in Geshe Sonam’s Vajrayana teachings requires an empowerment into a deity practice of Highest Yoga Tantra such as Cakrasaṃvara, Yamāntaka, Kālacakra, Vajrayogini or Guhyasamāja.

While all students with a highest yoga tantra empowerment are permitted to attend the commentary on Vajrabhairava, it should be understood that only those with the Vajrabhairava (Yamāntaka) initiation are allowed to engage with the sadhana and practice the self-generation fully. Although all students may hear the introductory instructions on the Vajrayoginī completion stage, they should be understood as an introductory presentation to place an imprint in the mind. In order to fully engage in these instructions, a Vajrayoginī empowerment and guidance of a lama is required.

Although Geshe la will present the commentaries as a dharma friend wishing to aid students in understanding the teachings and not necessarily require a vajra guru-disciple relationship, he does request that students maintain a deep and stable respect and faith for the profound Vajrayāna teachings and avoid developing wrong views.

Participants will be required to fill out a form, if they have not already done so for attendance at earlier sessions of this series, in order to confirm that they attended an appropriate empowerment.

Register here by Thursday, September 18th, 2025, at 7:00 pm ET to allow time to process registrations. Any registrations submitted after this time may not be processed in time for the teaching. You will, however, have access to the recordings for some time after the event once your registration has been processed, if you register after this date.

Note: Those who attended previous sessions of the Heruka-Cakrasaṃvara and/or Vajrayoginī Series, or the Practice series with Paula Chichester, are not required to register again.

Please help support these precious teachers and teachings.

Supporting the Dharma is an incredibly powerful and necessary action.

It is the highest form of generosity, sharing with others the path to full awakening. Offerings to the Dharma create the causes to never be separated from the Dharma, and to have conditions to realize the teachings. It deepens your connection with Dharma teachers, and you become a supporting member of our community.

Please help Lama Yeshe Ling provide more programs, and types of programs, and support our  venerable Sangha: Geshe Sonam and Khedrup, who have dedicated their lives to serving living beings with the Dharma
