Lama Yeshe Ling is pleased to offer “Here in the Floating World” a series that integrates two types of meditation: the physical meditation practices of Qi Gong for health and the mind meditation practices of Lojong that address emotions. Through physical meditation and mind meditation practice the mind and body become calmer and more open. This three-week program guides participants to experience movement itself as meditation through breath and breath as the source of calming the mind.

This course emphasizes learning how to cultivate presence, strength, and vitality by uniting body, breath, and mind. Through structured repetition and mindful attention, participants are invited to reduce mental distraction, develop physical confidence, and deepen awareness.

This practice is an inner discipline, a process of becoming familiar with one’s own body and mind. As in Tibetan contemplative traditions, meditation is understood as gom: to familiarize, habituate, and cultivate. Qi Gong becomes a living meditation, one that unfolds through
breath, repetition, and intelligent engagement with the body.

When: Saturdays, February 7, 14, and 21, 8:30 – 9:30 am EST

Where: Online via Zoom.

About the Practice

The Qi Gong taught in this course comes from the Shaolin Temple school in China, transmitted through Shifu Yan Lei, a Kung Fu martial artist whose approach emphasizes physical conditioning, stamina, and energetic flow through breath.

Participants will be introduced to:

  • Reverse breathing techniques to move and regulate vital energy (Qi)
  • Foundational stances that build strength, stability, and confidence
  • Repetitive movements that develop endurance while calming the mind
  • Stretching and release practices to support flexibility and recovery
  • Short seated meditations and closing contemplative practices, including tonglen

All exercises are adaptable. Modifications are offered for injuries, illness recovery, or varying levels of physical ability. Students are encouraged to work intelligently—listening to the body and cultivating awareness rather than striving.

Course Structure

Each 60-minute session follows a clear and supportive arc:

  • 5-10 minutes of seated relaxation and breath awareness
  • 40-45 minutes of Qi Gong practice (movement, stances, and strengthening exercises)
  • 5-10 minutes of closing meditation, reflection, and Q&A

The series is designed to be self-contained yet cumulatively progressive. Each class begins with a review of previous material, ensuring accessibility for newcomers, while gradually deepening the practice for returning participants.

Repetition is central. As with learning musical scales, familiarity builds strength, confidence, and
flow.
