Geshe Sonam gave the Solitary Vajrasattva Initiation on Sunday, June 8th.
For those who took the initiation as a practice, Geshe Sonam has asked that people recite refuge and bodhicitta prayers, do mantra recitation however many times you decided to recite during the ceremony (or in the past), and finish with a dedication.
Here are two Solitary Vajrasattva practices which are helpful (but part of a commitment given by Geshe Sonam during initiation).
This practice text includes a description of three visualizations that can be used during the mantra recitation and the meaning of the long mantra: Sadhana of Solitary Vajrasattva.
Here is another brief Vajrasattva practice: A Short Vajrasattva Meditation
The shorter length Vajrasattva mantra is not included in this text. It is:
ON BENZA SATTO HUM (Tibetan Pronunciation)
The longer Vajrasattva mantra is:
OM VAJRA SATTVA SAMAYA/ MA NU PA LA YA/ VAJRA SATTVA DE NO
PA TI THA/ DI DO ME BHA WA/ SU TO KAYO ME BHAWA/ SU PO KAYO
ME BHA WA / AH NU RA TO ME BHAWA/ SAR WA SIDHI ME PAR YA TSA/
SAWA KAR MA SU TSA ME/ TSI TAM SHRI YAM KU RU HUM/ HA HA HA HA
HO/ BHA GA WAN/ SARVA TATHAGATA/ VAJRA MA ME MU TSA/ VAJRA
BHA WA/ MAHA SAMAYA/ SATTVA AH HUM PHAT
Note: traditionally one recites the mantra 7 times for each visualization, but to make it easier for us, Geshe la has recommended we start small and then do more when time permits.
Geshe Sonam will give a commentary on the Solitary Vajrasattva Practice on Sunday, June 15th. This commentary will be open to everyone, whether or not they have taken the Vajrasattva initiation.
