Questions & Answers from Session One Teachings:
- Why did Tibetan translators add the line “Homage to all Buddhas and
Bodhisattvas” at the beginning of the Aparimitāyurjñānasūtra/ Amitayus Sūtra?
Answer: The translators added this verse according to a tradition called “salutation by royal command”, as this tradition dates back to the early Tibetan kings who supported the translation of the canon. The line “Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas” indicates that this particular sūtra belongs to the “sūtra basket” of the Tripiṭaka.
2. Who is the terton (treasurer discoverer) of the Longchen Nyingthik teachings?
Answer: Jigme Lingpa (1730–1798) was the discoverer of this cycle of teachings.
3. What is the connection between the terton who discovered the Longchen Nyingthik
teachings and Lonchenpa, after whom the teachings are named?
Answer: Although Longchenpa (1308-1364) lived well before the time of Jigme Lingpa, it is said that Jigme Lingpa received the ripening instructions the Longchen Nyingthik from Longchenpa in a series of visions, following a series magical interactions with wisdom ḍākinīs who bestowed the preliminary guide of the Longchen Nyingthik known as the Nechang Thuk kyi Drombu.
