Geshe Thubten Samdup is giving a series of bi-weekly teachings on Hear Sutra. The Heart Sutra is the most widely known sutra of the Mahayana tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. It is part of the Prajnaparamita Sutras, which is a collection of about 40 sutras composed between 100 BCE and 500 CE. The Heart Sutra is a presentation of profound wisdom on the nature of emptiness.

Session 1: April 17, 2018 (Preliminary teaching)

 

  1. Identifying the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra (Prajna-Paramita Sutra)
  2. On the number of the volumes.
  3. When did Buddha teach Prajna-Paramita sutra?
  4. Why Prajna-Paramita sutra is so important?
  5. The benefits and advantages of understanding emptiness.

Session 2: May 1, 2018 (Preliminary teaching cont.)

 

  1. Disadvantages of not properly understanding emptiness.
  2. Who is suitable to listen to the teachings on emptiness.
  3. The varieties of Buddha’s words.
  4. What is Perfection Wisdom?
  5. How many commentaries are there for the Heart Sutra?

Session 3: May 15, 2018 (Main Teaching)

 

  1. Translator’s Homage.
  2. History or the introduction of the Sutra.
  3. Engaging in Wisdom.
  4. Definition of emptiness.

Session 4: May 29, 2018 (Main Teaching cont.)

  4. The Mantras of the Wisdom.

Session 5: June 12, 2018 (Conclusion)

  3. Meditation on the selflessness of person.
  4. Meditation on the selflessness of phenomena.
  5. How does self-appear to self-grasping?
