New Years Day Purification Practice with Geshe Samdup

January 1, 2018 (Native Women's Centre)

Geshe Samdup has kindly agreed to join us and will offer instruction in Vajrasattva and the 35 Confession Buddhas. Geshe-la will also be giving refuge precepts for anyone wishing to stay and take refuge.

Time: 1:00-4:00 Purification instruction and practice

4:00-5:00 Refuge precepts for those who wish to take them for the first time or renew them

Bring in the New Year by purifying old, negative actions and habits, and reflecting upon what you would like to change in the coming year. On new years day, please join us to do the two powerful purification practices of the 35 confession Buddhas and Vajrasattva, the Buddha of Purification. We will also make positive aspirations and intentions for the benifit of ourselves and others.

By practicing Vajrasattva Puja and the 35 confession Buddhas we eliminate or neutralise karmic seeds and imprints created through our past negative actions, speech and thought patterns. We engage in these purification practices not only to help ourselves but with the altruistic motivation of purifying our karma in order to attain enlightenment quickly so as to benefit sentient beings. This intent strengthens our practice and propels us forward in our spiritual quest. This event is by donation.

Refuge: Refuge in Buddhism is a ceremony, a commitment, and a statement of faith.  The rituals of the ceremony may vary slightly according to the teacher, but the core element is the practitioner’s commitment to seeking liberation from suffering. The triple gem in which one takes refuge is the Buddha, the Dharma (the teachings/path), and the Sangha (the Sangha jewel one takes refuge in is strictly the community of monks and nuns; in the West, the term sangha has also become common parlance for a community of practitioners).
