Geshe Sonam Ngodrup

Venerable Geshe Sonam Ngodrup was born in Kardze, Kham in 1968 and left Tibet when he was 13 years old. After his studies at Sera Je monastery in the South of India, he took part in the Geshe exams and passed as one of the best three geshes from Sera, Drepung and Ganden monastery combined. Following this, he studied tantric philosophy and ritual in Gyume Tantric College. He became one of the most popular young teachers in Sera, and was this also at Nalanda monastery in France, where he taught for a year.
At the request of Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Geshe Sonam Ngodup is a resident teacher at Maitreya Instituut, in the Netherlands. Assisted by his translator, Toronto native Venerable Jamyang Khedrup, who has been translating for Geshe Sonam the past two years, Geshe-las has taught at Nalanda Monastery France, at Maitreya Instituut and also at various centres in Denmark, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, and here at Lama Yeshe Ling.
Geshe Sonam Ngodrup is the teacher for the FPMT Basic Program Online course on the Heart Sutra.
Geshe-la first visited Lama Yeshe Ling in 2013, for Compassion Day celebrations, and gave two evening teachings to unusually large turnouts.  Geshe-la teaches in Tibetan, but even so conveys a sense intellectual certainty and impassioned earnestness in the meaning of his subject; and his translator Khedrup translatess this in a down-to-earth and personable way.
