New Years Day Purification Vajrasattva Puja and 35 confession Buddhas

Event Date:
January 1, 2018 - 1:00pm - 5:00pm

New Years Day Purification Practice with Geshe Samdup

January 1, 2018 (Native Women's Centre)

Geshe Samdup has kindly agreed to join us and will offer instruction in Vajrasattva and the 35 Confession Buddhas. Geshe-la will also be giving refuge precepts for anyone wishing to stay and take refuge.

Time: 1:00-4:00 Purification instruction and practice

4:00-5:00 Refuge precepts for those who wish to take them for the first time or renew them

Bring in the New Year by purifying old, negative actions and habits, and reflecting upon what you would like to change in the coming year. On new years day, please join us to do the two powerful purification practices of the 35 confession Buddhas and Vajrasattva, the Buddha of Purification. We will also make positive aspirations and intentions for the benifit of ourselves and others.

By practicing Vajrasattva Puja and the 35 confession Buddhas we eliminate or neutralise karmic seeds and imprints created through our past negative actions, speech and thought patterns. We engage in these purification practices not only to help ourselves but with the altruistic motivation of purifying our karma in order to attain enlightenment quickly so as to benefit sentient beings. This intent strengthens our practice and propels us forward in our spiritual quest. This event is by donation.

The Power of the Names of the Thirty-five Confession Buddhas

Refuge: Refuge in Buddhism is a ceremony, a commitment, and a statement of faith.  The rituals of the ceremony may vary slightly according to the teacher, but the core element is the practitioner’s commitment to seeking liberation from suffering. The triple gem in which one takes refuge is the Buddha, the Dharma (the teachings/path), and the Sangha (the Sangha jewel one takes refuge in is strictly the community of monks and nuns; in the West, the term sangha has also become common parlance for a community of practitioners).

Guru Puja

Event Date:
March 11, 2018 - 11:00am - 1:00pm

Lama Chopa - The Guru Puja with Tsog

Sunday, March 11

If you are able to do the practice of Guru Puja in your daily life, it contains all the important points of sutra and tantra. It is a complete practice, like hitting a target, so you should attempt to integrate everything in this way. If you do this practice you don’t miss anything. This practice of Guru Puja is very profound, with many extra benefits, and is very quick to bring enlightenment. The lam-rim prayer in Guru Puja has lam-rim, thought transformation and, after the six perfections, the generation and completion stages of tantra. There are verses that show those paths (excerpt from Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche).

Group Practice - Tara Puja

Event Date:
April 22, 2018 - 11:00am - 1:00pm

Tara The Liberator

Sunday, April 22

Tara the Liberator, liberating us from samsara. Tara, the feminine aspect of the Buddha.  The Four Mandala Offerings to Cittamani Tara is a great way to clear away obstacles to work, relationships, and disharmony in your life.

“There are so many inner obstacles to the development of your mind, and these inner obstacles create many outer obstacles. Therefore, for the success of your Dharma practice, of your actualizing the graduated path to enlightenment, you must rely upon a special deity, or Buddha, such as Tara.”- Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche; Kopan Monastery, May 1987

The lam-rim prayer, the prayer of the steps of the path to enlightenment, in Guru Puja has lam-rim and also lo-jong, or thought transformation.

Discovering the Nature of your own Mind

Tuesdays 7:00 pm at 501 Templemead Drive Hamilton ON

This ongoing series provides a basic introduction and overview of Buddhist philosophy and principles, particularly as they are practiced in the Tibetan tradition. The topics we explore include:
  • Introduction to meditation
  • Survey of Buddha’s teachings
  • How these apply to everyday problems
Everyone is welcome, no prior knowledge or experience is needed.  If you’re new to meditation, this is a great place to start, bring along a friend. We also do not assume that anyone in the class wants to become a Buddhist. As the Dalai Lama says “Don’t try to use what you learn from Buddhism to be a Buddhist; use it to be a better whatever-you-already-are.”

The series runs Tuesdays 7:00 to 9:00 pm, starting February 16 through to June 28. You’ll gain the most from attending every sessions, but it’s okay if you don’t. You can join in at any point and still gain something from being here.

Jowo Atisha DipamkaraThe genre of teachings known as the Stages of the Path (Tibetan: Lam-Rim) represents a synthesis of the entire path to enlightenment. Based on Atisha's Lamp of the Path to Enlightenment, they present the essence of all the Buddha's teachings in a clear and concise way, easy to understand and apply in meditation. The beauty of studying the lam-rim is that whenever you hear a teaching anything Buddhist, you know where it fits into the whole path. So, in that way, you can say that everything the Buddha taught is in the lam-rim.
