Discovering Buddhism

The Discovering Buddhism program is the result of the combined efforts of a number of FPMT teachers and spiritual program coordinators, under the guidance and advice of Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

Discovering Buddhism at Home

Discovering Buddhism (DB) is an estimated 2-year course for which students may receive a certificate of completion upon fulfillment of all requirements. The aim of the Discovering Buddhism program is to give participants a solid footing in the practice of Mahayana Buddhism. By engaging in this program, participants will receive an experiential taste of the Buddha's teachings, some retreat experience, and will have the skills they need to make their lives most meaningful.

Hamilton Group

The Hamilton group was formed in October 2005 and since then we have formed a supportive community including teachers, nurses, reporters, psychologists, IT workers, business people, healers, home-makers, actors, students, both young and retired. We study and discuss an introductory program of Buddha's teachings, based on the Stages of the Path to Buddhahood called Discovering Buddhism.

We are taking a break for the summer but will post our time and place for meetings starting again in the fall.

Oakville/Burlington Group

This group which began in Oakville, led by Dekyi Lee Oldershaw, former nun and founder of Lamp on the Path has been meeting each third Tuesday of every month for several years. We are pleased to announce that we have moved into the former rector's house next to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3445 Lakeshore Rd, Burlington Ontario (just west of Walker's Line) and now have a full program almost each day of the week!

The group started with an overview of the the Stages of the Path to Awakening, and has been discussing specific topics of Buddhist philosopy and practice. These 'juicy' topics are now being run on Monday evenings from 7 to 9 pm as well as offering Wednesday evenings of Deepening Dharma, special chanting ceremonies, and bi-weekly Friday Film nights.

Recently it appears there may be growing interest in emphasizing meditation practice and a program called How to Meditate is taking place on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30pm.

Check the calendar and our home page for dates and details.
